The glossy marble panel on so many TV walls and lobbies is a thin printed board, not stone. Here is what it is made of, how it is fixed, and which seller claims you should ask to see tested.

A UV marble sheet is not marble. One manufacturer lists it as 35% PVC, 62% calcium carbonate and 3% additives, with a printed marble pattern under a UV-cured coating, in sheets roughly 2–5 mm thick. It is bonded to the wall with tape and adhesive, so the result depends on a flat, dry, sound wall. It suits TV walls, feature walls and lobbies; it is not a waterproofing layer and does not replace tile in a shower zone. Heat, scratch and colour claims come without published test data, so ask the seller for it. ClickBina supplies and installs UV sheets and other panels: tell us your room, wall size and budget and we will recommend one and quote.
A UV marble sheet is the large, glossy “marble” panel you see on TV walls, lift lobbies and shop counters that went up in a day or two instead of a week of stone work. It is not stone and it is not tile. It is a thin plastic-and-mineral board with a printed marble pattern and a hard, shiny top coat that is cured under ultraviolet light, which is where the “UV” in the name comes from.
A 'UV marble sheet' is a PVC and calcium-carbonate board with a printed marble pattern under a UV-cured coating. One manufacturer lists 35% PVC, 62% calcium carbonate and 3% additives, in sheets of 1220 mm by 2440-2900 mm and roughly 2-5 mm thick.
Those numbers explain most of what the product is good and bad at. A sheet a few millimetres thick is light and quick to put up, and it gives a large, almost seamless marble look for a fraction of the weight of stone. It also means the sheet has no body of its own: it follows whatever wall it is stuck to, dents and all. This guide is written as a list of what to ask the seller, because most of the performance claims made for UV sheets are not backed by any test data we could find.
If you are comparing it with other panel families, start with our guide to wall panel types.
In Malaysian shops the same glossy marble panel is sold as a UV board, a PVC marble sheet, a UV marble sheet or an SPC UV board. The names are not a specification. Some sellers describe a PVC and calcium-carbonate core, others describe their board as SPC, and the thickness quoted on the same listing is not always consistent. This is the same problem that runs through the whole wall-panel market:
Product names are used loosely in Malaysia: the same fluted panel can be listed under a 'WPC' web address while its specification says polystyrene, and one seller describes fluted cores as 'often high-density Polystyrene or a Wood-Plastic/PVC Composite'. Ask the quotation to state the core material, not the trade name.
For a UV sheet, that means asking for the core material, the thickness in millimetres and the sheet size in writing, and holding an offcut in your hand before you choose. Two sheets that look the same on the rack can bend, cut and sit on the wall quite differently.
People usually arrive at UV sheet from one of two directions: they wanted real marble but not its weight and cost, or they wanted marble-look porcelain tiles but not the hacking, mess and grout lines. The honest comparison is about what each product is and how it goes on the wall, not about which one is “stronger”:
| UV marble sheet | Real marble slab | Marble-look porcelain tile | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Thin PVC and calcium-carbonate board with a printed pattern and a UV-cured coat | Natural stone cut into slabs | Fired ceramic tile with a printed marble face |
| How it goes up | Bonded to a flat wall with tape and adhesive | Cut and fixed by a stone fabricator | Laid by a tiler with tile adhesive and grout |
| Joints | Few, but every joint shows; needs trims or a neat butt joint | Few, matched veins on good work | Grout line every tile |
| What decides the finish | How flat the wall is | The slab and the fabricator | Tile quality and the tiler |
| Removal later | Adhesive usually takes the wall surface with it | Heavy demolition | Hacking |
| Test data we could find | Composition and fixing only | — | — |
For real stone, our granite and marble slab fabrication guide explains how slabs are cut and fixed. For tiles, see our tile types comparison. The UV sheet is the only one of the three that depends entirely on the wall behind it.
Listings for UV sheets often promise that the surface resists heat and scratches and keeps its colour for many years. We looked for a datasheet or test report behind those promises and did not find one. That does not prove the claims wrong; it means we cannot repeat them as facts, and neither should a seller without showing you the test.
A plastic-rich board does not soak up water the way MDF does, and that is one reason UV sheets are sold for kitchens and bathrooms. But the sheet is not a waterproofing layer. Water gets in at joints, edges, socket cut-outs and where the sheet meets the floor or the counter, and once it is behind a bonded sheet it has nowhere to go. The adhesive can let go, and a damp wall behind can stay damp.
Our rule is simple: the wall must be dry and sound before it is covered, splash zones need sealed joints and edges, and a shower zone gets tile over proper waterproofing, not a sheet. If you are thinking of covering old tiles, read our guide to wall panels over old tiles first.
Some UV sheet listings carry a “fire retardant” badge. A badge is a seller claim, not a classification, and none of the listings we checked came with a test report. Two facts help you read such claims:
At home, that mainly means knowing what you are putting on the wall. For a shop, office, lift lobby or any common area, the building’s consultant and the fire authority decide what is acceptable, so ask for the fire test report for the exact sheet before it is ordered.
UV marble sheets are bonded, not mechanically fixed: one manufacturer specifies double-sided tape plus adhesive glue, for interior use.
In practice a good installation goes like this: the wall is checked and made flat, the sheets are laid out on paper so the veins and joints fall in sensible places, openings for switches and sockets are marked, and each sheet is cut, taped, glued and pressed into place. Joints are either butted tight or finished with a trim profile, and edges at the ceiling, floor and corners are closed off. Our wall panel installation guide compares adhesive, clip and batten systems across all panel types.
Because the sheet is bonded, it is not a product you can easily take down and reuse. Treat it as a semi-permanent finish, and think about that if you rent or plan to renovate again soon.
A thin glossy sheet shows every bump, hollow and ridge under it, especially when light rakes across it from a window or a downlight. That is why the preparation line matters more than the sheet brand. Before any sheet goes up, the wall should be:
A quote that has no line for wall preparation is either assuming a perfect wall or leaving it to you.
This is our installation advice, not a property of the product:
| Location | Our view |
|---|---|
| TV wall, feature wall, bedroom headboard wall | A good fit if the wall is flat and dry |
| Lift lobby, reception, shop feature wall | Works well; ask for the fire test report first |
| Dry kitchen wall away from the hob | Workable with sealed joints; tile or glass directly behind the hob |
| Bathroom walls outside the shower | Only over a sound, dry wall with sealed edges |
| Shower zone, wet kitchen splash zone | No: tile over proper waterproofing |
| Outdoor walls | No: the product is sold for interior use |
For other marble-look and feature options, compare the feature wall guide and the TV feature wall cost guide, which give typical site ranges; this page publishes no prices of its own.
Two quotes for “UV marble sheet, one TV wall” can describe very different jobs. Ask for these lines before you compare them:
| Line | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Core material (PVC and calcium carbonate, or SPC) and brand | The shop name for the product is not reliable |
| Thickness in millimetres and sheet size | Decides stiffness, how many joints and how much waste |
| Adhesive and tape used | The bond is the whole installation |
| Wall preparation (skim, levelling, removing loose paint) | A glossy sheet shows every flaw underneath |
| Joint method and trims at edges and corners | Where cheap jobs look cheap and where water gets in |
| Cut-outs for switches and sockets | Who moves electrical points, and at whose cost |
| Layout drawing for veins and joints | Joints in the wrong place spoil the marble look |
| Fire test report (shops, offices, lobbies) | A badge is not a classification |
ClickBina supplies and installs wall panels and feature walls as part of our renovation work in KL and Selangor — WPC, PS, PVC, SPC, painted, laminated or veneered MDF, solid timber slat, UV marble sheet, acoustic slat and fabric panels. We recommend the panel by your budget and how the room is used, and the quotation names the core material, thickness, fixing method and trims. For UV sheet walls we check the wall flatness first and put the core, thickness and adhesive on the quotation.
Tell us your room, wall size and budget on WhatsApp and we’ll recommend the right panel and quote. A site visit is RM150, waived if you proceed. Our price is flat, with no hidden charges; we are SSM-registered and reply within the hour. If the wall is part of a bigger job, we handle whole-house refurbishment and coordinate the trades.
Every material fact on this page was checked against the page or PDF below on 30 Sep 2026. Most are one manufacturer describing its own product, so we quote them as that, not as a property of every panel sold under the same name. Where a standard is named (EN 13501-1, ASTM E84, BS 476) it is named by the manufacturer; it is not a Malaysian approval.
Prices: this page publishes no prices. Panel prices depend on the core material, thickness, wall size, trims and the state of the wall, so we quote after you tell us the room, wall size and budget. The site-visit fee (RM150, waived if you proceed) is ClickBina’s own.
