Flea Control Malaysia
Fleas in the House & Bed (2026)

Itchy ankles, jumping specks on the sofa? Why fleas come back, where they hide indoors, and how to clear them for good.

📍 We serve KL, Selangor & Putrajaya.

Living room with a fabric sofa, woven rug, cat bed and a vacuum cleaner beside the sofa

Flea treatment works when three things are treated at about the same time: the pets (by your vet), the inside of the house, especially bedding, sofas, carpets and along the skirting, and any shaded outdoor spot the animals use. Fleas in the house usually come from a cat or dog, a previous tenant's pet, or strays and wildlife living under the house or in the roof. Most eggs and young fleas live in fabrics and floor cracks, not on the animal, so vacuuming, hot washing and a follow-up treatment matter. ClickBina's pest guide puts a one-off general pest treatment at RM120 – RM350 per visit (market estimate 2026, Klang Valley).

Signs you have fleas in the house

  • Itchy bites around ankles and lower legs, often in small groups, especially after sitting on the floor, a sofa or a rug.
  • Tiny dark insects that jump on white socks, the bed or the pet's fur. Fleas are wingless and move by jumping.
  • Flea dirt: black specks in the pet's coat or bedding. Put them on damp white tissue; flea dirt smears reddish-brown because it is digested blood.
  • Pets scratching and biting at their skin more than usual, particularly at the base of the tail and the neck.
  • Bites in bed when a cat or dog sleeps on the bed, or when the bedroom carpet has become a nursery for larvae.

Bites alone are not proof: mosquitoes, bed bugs and mites also bite. Bed bug bites appear overnight, often on the arms, shoulders or legs, as ClickBina's bed bug treatment guide explains. Flea bites cluster around the ankles after sitting on a floor, rug or sofa, and the fleas themselves jump.

Why fleas keep coming back: the life cycle

Adult fleas live on the animal and feed on its blood, but the eggs they lay fall off wherever the animal rests: the bed, the sofa, rugs, car seats and the shaded spot under the porch. Larvae hatch in those places and hide deep in carpet pile, between floorboards and along skirting, feeding on flea dirt. They spin cocoons, and the developing fleas inside are well protected from sprays. They emerge when they sense warmth and vibration, which is why an empty house can seem flea-free until someone moves back in and is bitten immediately.

This is the reason a single spray rarely ends it. The adults you can see are only part of the population; the rest is in the fabrics and the floor, and the cocoon stage survives the first treatment. A plan that treats the pet, cleans and treats the home, and comes back for a follow-up is what clears the cycle.

Fleas but no pets? Where they come from

  • The previous occupant's pet. Cocoons left in carpets can hatch weeks after a new tenant or owner moves in.
  • Strays under the house or in the porch. Cats sleeping under a car or in a store room leave eggs and larvae behind.
  • Wildlife in the roof or ceiling. Rats and civets in the roof space can carry fleas; when the animals leave, hungry fleas look for a new host.
  • Visitors' pets and second-hand furniture. A rug or sofa from a home with pets can bring them in.

If animals are living in the roof, seal the entry points after they have gone or the problem returns; ClickBina's garden pest control guide covers the outdoor side, where fleas and ticks build up in the shaded ground animals use.

The three-part approach

PartWho does itWhat it involves
The animalsYour vetA flea treatment suited to each pet, given to every pet in the house at the same time
Inside the houseYou, then a pest control operatorVacuuming, hot washing, then treating floors, edges and soft furnishings
The compoundPest control operatorShaded ground the animals use: under the porch, along the fence, beside the gate

Treating one part alone is why so many flea problems drag on. A treated house with an untreated cat is re-infested within days; a treated cat in an untreated house keeps picking up newly hatched fleas.

What you can do before and after treatment

  1. Vacuum thoroughly every floor, rug, sofa, the mattress edges, under furniture and along skirting. Vibration also coaxes fleas out of cocoons. Empty the vacuum outside, sealed in a bag.
  2. Wash bedding and soft items on a hot cycle and dry them well: pet beds, blankets, cushion covers, sheets and throws.
  3. Clear the floor so the operator can reach the edges, under beds and under sofas.
  4. Agree where pets go during and after treatment, and for how long, as the operator instructs in writing.
  5. Keep vacuuming after treatment. It brings up newly hatched fleas so they contact the treated surface.
  6. Expect a few fleas for a while. Fleas hatching from protected cocoons can appear after treatment; that is why the follow-up visit matters.

What a professional flea treatment involves

A pest control operator inspects where the animals sleep and where people are bitten, then treats floors, carpet edges, under furniture and resting areas, and the outdoor spots the pets use. Treatments commonly combine an insecticide for adult fleas with a product that stops eggs and larvae developing. Ask the operator which products they use, how long people, children and pets must stay off treated areas, how fish tanks should be covered, and when the follow-up visit is. ClickBina's pest control services guide sets out the safety basics for any home treatment.

Beds, sofas and carpets

Soft furnishings hold more fleas than bare floors do. A deep clean of the sofa, mattress and carpets, done together with the treatment plan, removes eggs, larvae and flea dirt from places a spray barely reaches:

  • Mattress: vacuum the seams and sides, wash the protector and sheets hot, and consider a professional clean if a pet sleeps on the bed.
  • Sofa: vacuum between and under the cushions; a fabric sofa used by pets benefits from an extraction clean.
  • Carpets and rugs: deep cleaning flushes the base of the pile where larvae live; take loose rugs outside to beat and air them.
  • Pet bedding: wash it hot, or replace it if it is heavily infested.

What flea treatment costs

ClickBina's guides do not list a separate flea price; fleas fall under general pest treatment, and the soft furnishing cleans are priced on their own pages (market estimate 2026, indicative Klang Valley).

What moves a flea job: the size of the home, how many rooms and soft furnishings are involved, whether the compound needs treating, how many visits the plan includes, and whether animals in the roof have to be dealt with first. Your vet's treatment for the pets is separate.

Keeping fleas away

  • Keep every pet on a regular flea prevention plan from your vet, all year round.
  • Wash pet bedding often and vacuum the places pets sleep.
  • Keep stray cats out of the porch, store room and car with screens and closed gaps.
  • Seal roof and ceiling entry points so rats and civets cannot live above you.
  • Deep clean carpets and soft furnishings before moving into a home where pets lived.

Common Questions

How do I get rid of fleas in my house?
Treat the pets through your vet, vacuum and hot-wash everything soft, have the floors, edges and furnishings treated, and treat the shaded outdoor spots the pets use, all at about the same time, with a follow-up visit.
Why do I have fleas but no pets?
Common sources are a previous occupant's pet, stray cats under the house or in the porch, rats or civets in the roof, and second-hand rugs or sofas.
Can fleas live in my bed?
Yes, especially if a pet sleeps on it. Eggs and larvae settle in bedding and mattress seams; hot-wash the bedding, vacuum the mattress and treat the bedroom floor.
Why are there still fleas after treatment?
Fleas inside cocoons are protected from treatment and keep hatching for a while. Keep vacuuming so they reach treated surfaces, and do not skip the follow-up visit.
How much does flea treatment cost in Malaysia?
Fleas fall under general pest treatment, which ClickBina's pest guide puts at RM120–RM350 per visit (market estimate 2026, Klang Valley). Soft-furnishing cleaning and the vet's treatment are extra.
How can I tell flea bites from bed bug bites?
Flea bites cluster around the ankles after sitting on a floor, rug or sofa, and fleas jump. Bed bug bites appear overnight, often on the arms, shoulders or legs. Look for flea dirt on pets and bedding to confirm.
Is flea treatment safe for my pets and children?
Follow the operator's written instructions on how long people and pets stay off treated areas and how to cover fish tanks. Pet flea medicines come from your vet, not the pest control operator.
