Real sink dimensions from makers' spec sheets, the cabinet width and cut-out each needs, and which size suits a wet or dry kitchen.
📍 We serve KL, Selangor & Putrajaya.

There is no single standard kitchen sink size in Malaysia, but the makers' own specification sheets show a clear pattern: single bowl inset sinks of about 56 cm wide fit a cabinet at least 60 cm wide, while double bowl sinks need a cabinet of at least 80 cm. Franke's Maris double bowl, for example, measures 760 × 510 mm with a cut-out of 740 × 498 mm and needs a minimum cabinet size of 80 cm; IKEA's LÅNGUDDEN single bowl is 56 × 52.5 cm and fits cabinet frames of at least 60 cm. Always size the sink from the cabinet and the countertop cut-out, not from the box. ClickBina's sink guide puts a stainless steel single bowl at RM150 – RM450 and a double bowl at RM250 – RM700, supply only.
Sinks are sold by model, not by a national size, so the most honest way to answer “what size is a standard kitchen sink” is to look at what the makers publish. These are sinks sold in Malaysia, with the dimensions from each maker's product page.
| Sink (maker) | Type | Overall size | Bowl size | Minimum cabinet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IKEA LÅNGUDDEN | Single bowl, inset, stainless | 56 × 52.5 cm | 50 × 40 cm, 18 cm deep | 60 cm frame |
| IKEA HILLESJÖN | Single bowl, inset, stainless | 56 × 46 cm | — | 60 cm frame |
| Franke BOX 210-54 | Single bowl, undermount or flush | 580 × 450 mm | 540 × 410 mm, 200 mm deep | 60 cm |
| Franke Orion OID 611-94 | Single bowl with drainer | 940 × 510 mm | 440 × 440 mm, 190 mm deep | 60 cm |
| IKEA KILSVIKEN | Single bowl with drainboard | 72 × 46 cm | 41 cm wide, 18 cm deep | 60 cm frame |
| Franke Maris MRG 620-35-35 | Double bowl | 760 × 510 mm | Two of 346 × 400 mm, 200 mm deep | 80 cm |
| Franke Orion OID 621 | Double bowl with drainer | 1160 × 510 mm | Two of 340 × 440 mm, 190 mm deep | 80 cm |
Brand names are examples, not recommendations. The pattern is what matters: front-to-back sizes sit close together because every sink has to fit the same depth of base cabinet, while the width changes with the number of bowls and whether there is a drainer.
A single bowl sink is the most common choice in condos and dry kitchens. The examples above run from about 56 cm wide for a compact inset bowl to 580 mm for an undermount bowl, and all of them are made for a cabinet 60 cm wide.
A double bowl lets you soak in one side and rinse in the other, which suits a busy or wet kitchen. The cost is width: the Franke Maris double bowl above is 760 mm wide with two bowls of 346 mm each, and the maker lists a minimum cabinet size of 80 cm.
Adding a drainboard roughly doubles the length. Franke's single bowl Orion OID 611-94 is 940 mm long, and the double bowl OID 621 with a drainer is 1160 mm long, but the bowl part still sits over one cabinet; the drainer simply runs over the next cabinet along. IKEA's KILSVIKEN with drainboard is 72 cm long.
That is why a long drainer sink needs the cabinet layout planned around it: the sink cabinet holds the bowl and the waste, and the cabinet next to it must have no hob, tall unit or wall return in the way.
The base cabinet sets the limits. ClickBina's kitchen cabinet size guide notes that local practice builds base cabinets about 850–900 mm high including the countertop, and 600 mm deep, which is the depth that fits a standard sink, a built-in hob and a dishwasher.
| Sink choice | Cabinet width to plan for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Compact single bowl | At least 60 cm | The IKEA and Franke single bowls above all list 60 cm |
| Large single bowl, undermount | At least 60 cm | Check the bowl clears the cabinet sides |
| Single bowl with drainer | 60 cm sink cabinet plus the next cabinet | Nothing tall beside the drainer end |
| Double bowl | At least 80 cm | Both Franke double bowls above list 80 cm |
| Double bowl with drainer | 80 cm sink cabinet plus the next cabinet | Plan this before the cabinets are drawn |
A sink that is too wide for its cabinet is a common reason a kitchen has to be re-cut after the cabinets arrive. Pick the sink before the cabinet drawing is finalised; our small kitchen cabinet design guide covers squeezing a sink into a short run.
The hole in the countertop is not the same as the sink size. An inset (topmount) sink sits on its rim, so the cut-out is smaller than the sink: the Franke Maris double bowl at 760 × 510 mm needs a cut-out of 740 × 498 mm, and IKEA lists the LÅNGUDDEN cut-out as 51 cm by 54 cm.
Our countertop guide compares the top materials that take an undermount sink.
The bowls in the examples above are 18 to 20 cm deep: IKEA lists 18 cm for LÅNGUDDEN and KILSVIKEN, and Franke lists 190 mm and 200 mm for its bowls. Deeper bowls hide dishes and stop splashes; shallower bowls are easier on the back. Remember that the waste trap and any water filter under the sink also take space in the cabinet, so a very deep bowl leaves less room for a bin or storage underneath.
| Kitchen | Sensible sink | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wet kitchen, heavy cooking | Double bowl or large single bowl | Soak and rinse at the same time; woks and pots |
| Dry kitchen with a dishwasher | Compact single bowl | Light use; keeps worktop space |
| Condo kitchen, short run | Single bowl, 60 cm cabinet | Fits the space; add a drainer only if there is room |
| Landed house with wet and dry kitchens | Double bowl wet, small single dry | Each kitchen does a different job |
Our kitchen layout guide explains where the sink fits in L-shaped, galley and island kitchens.
