Granite Price in Malaysia
Countertops, Floors, Stairs & What Moves the Price (2026)

What granite costs per foot run and per square foot, and why two quotes for the same job can be far apart.

Polished granite slabs in blue, gold and black leaning on a rack in a stone yard

Granite in Malaysia is priced two ways: countertops per foot run, and floors per square foot. ClickBina's guides put a granite countertop at RM200 – RM500 per foot run supplied and installed, against RM250 – RM600 for quartz, and marble or granite flooring at RM30 – RM80+ per sq ft supplied and laid (indicative 2026, Klang Valley). The colour and origin of the slab, its finish, the edge profile and the number of cut-outs decide where in that range a job lands. A site visit is RM150, waived if you go ahead.

These are ranges, not a price list. Two kitchens with the same run of granite can sit at opposite ends of the countertop band because of the slab chosen and the work cut into it.

How countertop pricing works

A foot run is measured along the front edge of the worktop at the standard depth. The rate normally covers the slab, templating, cutting, a standard polished edge, and fitting on your cabinets. Items often priced on top: a raised backsplash or upstand, a waterfall end that runs down to the floor, a deeper island top, undermount sink and hob cut-outs, and mitred thick-look edges. The granite and marble slab fabrication guide explains each of these steps and why templating after the cabinets are fixed matters.

What moves the price of granite

  • Colour and rarity — common browns, greys and blacks sit lower; unusual blues, whites and heavily patterned stones sit higher.
  • Origin and batch — the same trade name can come from different quarries and look different.
  • Slab or tiles — a one-piece slab costs more than granite tiles laid on a worktop.
  • Thickness and edge — thicker slabs and built-up or mitred edges add material and labour.
  • Finish — polished is standard; honed, leathered and flamed finishes add a step.
  • Cut-outs and joins — each sink, hob and tap hole, and each seam, adds work.
  • Waste — a strong vein or pattern may force more of the slab to be discarded to match.
  • Access — stone is heavy; stairs, narrow lifts and long pieces add handling.

Granite names you will see

Granite is sold under trade names such as Tan Brown, Absolute Black, Kashmir White, Kashmir Gold, Blue Bahia and Volga Blue. The name is only a starting point: stone from one quarry varies from block to block, and a small sample rarely shows the movement across a whole slab. For anything more than a small vanity top, ask to see the actual slab, or the slab number from the yard, before you pay the deposit. Rare colours cost more because fewer slabs exist, not because they perform better; for everyday use, a common dark granite is as durable as any.

Granite slab or granite tiles?

Some worktops, especially in older wet kitchens, are made from granite tiles laid on a concrete top rather than one slab. Tiles are cheaper and easy to replace one by one, but the grout lines collect grease and water and never look like a solid top. A slab gives an unbroken surface with only one or two planned seams. If you are comparing quotes, check which one each quote is for; the difference explains much of the price gap.

Granite vs quartz, sintered stone and solid surface

MaterialHeatStains and sealingLook
GraniteHandles hot pans wellPorous; needs periodic sealingNatural, every slab different
Quartz (engineered stone)Resin can scorch; use a trivetNon-porous; no sealingEven, consistent colour
Sintered stoneTolerates direct heatNon-porousPrinted patterns, including marble looks
Solid surfaceAvoid hot pansRepairable, can be re-sandedSeamless joins

The kitchen countertop guide compares these materials for Malaysian cooking, and the sintered stone guide explains the chipping risk on thin sintered edges. Granite's advantage is heat and a natural look; its cost is regular sealing.

Granite on floors, porches and stairs

On floors, granite is usually priced with marble as natural stone, at RM30 – RM80+ per sq ft supplied and laid on ClickBina's guides. Outdoors and on a car porch, a flamed or honed finish grips better than a polished one, which turns slippery when wet; the car porch flooring guide compares granite with tiles, pavers and concrete for that job. On stairs, each granite tread is cut to its step, and the staircase cladding guide covers nosings and grip. Compared with marble flooring, granite is harder and resists scratches and acids better.

"Granite" sinks are not granite

A granite composite sink is not cut from a granite slab. The kitchen sink and tap guide lists them as quartz and resin, at RM400 – RM800 for a single bowl. They pair well with a granite or quartz top, but they are priced and cared for as a separate product.

Sealing, chips and replacement

Granite is porous, so oil, turmeric and red wine can soak in if the surface is not sealed. Most tops need resealing periodically; water that no longer beads on the surface is the sign. Chips at a sink edge can usually be filled; a crack running from a hob cut-out is a bigger job. The countertop chip, crack and stain repair guide explains when a repair is enough and when a section or the whole top has to be replaced. Replacing a top usually means removing the old stone, templating again and sometimes reconnecting the sink and hob.

How to buy granite without surprises

  1. Fix the cabinets first; the stone is templated on the installed carcasses, not on a drawing.
  2. See the slab, or the yard's slab number, for anything larger than a vanity.
  3. Agree where the seams will fall, and keep them away from the sink and hob.
  4. List every cut-out, edge and upstand on the quote so two quotes can be compared.
  5. Ask whether sealing is done after installation and what the care instructions are.

Two quotes for the same kitchen are only comparable when they list the same stone, the same edge, the same upstand and the same cut-outs. A cheaper quote with a thinner slab, tiles instead of a slab, or cut-outs left off will look very different once the job is done.
