Cabinets always full but nothing within reach? Here is how to organise a kitchen with the right fittings in each zone, and what they cost.

Kitchen cabinets feel full because deep shelves hide the back, not because there is too little space. The fix is to bring the back to you: drawers with dividers in the base run, pull-out baskets beside the hob, a bin pull-out under the sink, a draining dish rack over it and a pull-out frame in the tall unit. The hardware does the work, so check load ratings; ClickBina's pantry guide puts ball-bearing runners at RM25 – RM60 per pair and metal drawer systems at RM150 – RM400 per drawer (indicative 2026, Klang Valley).
ClickBina's pantry guide puts it plainly: a 600 mm-deep shelved larder loses everything at the back, and a pull-out brings the contents to you. The same is true of every base cabinet with a door and a single shelf. You use the front third, stack in front of the rest, and buy a second bottle of soy sauce because you cannot see the first.
Organising a kitchen is therefore mostly a hardware decision made when the cabinets are designed, not a box of plastic trays bought afterwards. This guide goes through the fittings zone by zone, what each costs and what to check on the quotation. For the runners that carry the drawers, see our drawer runner guide.
Start with what you do where. Most Malaysian kitchens have four zones, and each wants different storage:
| Zone | What lives there | Fittings that help |
|---|---|---|
| Sink and wash-up | Detergents, sponges, bin, dish drying | Bin pull-out, sink-cabinet tray, dish rack above |
| Hob and wok | Pots, woks, oil, sauces, spices | Deep pot drawers, narrow pull-out basket beside the hob |
| Prep and worktop | Knives, cutlery, chopping boards, wraps | Cutlery insert, knife block drawer, board slot |
| Tall and dry storage | Rice, tins, snacks, small appliances | Pull-out pantry frame, internal drawers |
| Corner | Things used a few times a year | Carousel, Magic Corner or LeMans |
Once the zones are set, the fittings follow, and the cabinet sizes follow the fittings rather than the other way round. Most fittings are made for particular cabinet widths, so decide on them before the carpenter draws.
The cheapest organiser is a drawer that is divided properly. A shallow top drawer near the prep area takes a cutlery insert; the deep drawers below take pots, lids and plates. Adjustable dividers or a pegboard base stop plates and bowls sliding when the drawer closes, which matters with soft-close runners that still decelerate sharply.
A narrow pull-out basket beside the hob keeps oils, sauces and spices within reach of the wok without cluttering the worktop. Wire baskets are common and easy to wipe; solid-bottom trays stop small bottles tipping. In a wet kitchen, choose stainless or coated wire and wipe spills promptly, because oil and moisture collect on the runners.
Check the load rating as well as the look. ClickBina's pantry guide warns that a pull-out carrying heavy goods is a dynamic load, and a cheap roller runner will sag and jam within a couple of years; ball-bearing and undermount systems are rated for it.
A bin that slides out with the door or on its own runners is the single most-used fitting in many kitchens. Two or three compartments make it easy to separate general waste from recyclables. The sink cabinet is the natural home, but the waste pipe, trap and water filter share the space, so plan the bin around them rather than discovering the clash on installation day.
A moisture-resistant carcass under the sink matters more than any fitting; our cabinet water damage guide explains why the sink base is where swelling starts.
Many Malaysian kitchens dry dishes in a rack inside the wall cabinet above the sink, so plates drip straight into the basin. It saves worktop and keeps drying dishes out of sight. The rack needs a drip tray and good air flow, because a closed cabinet full of wet plates is a humid box; leave the door open after washing or choose an open or lift-up front.
Stainless racks cope with constant wetting better than coated wire, and the cabinet above the sink should have a moisture-resistant carcass and sealed edges for the same reason.
ClickBina's pantry guide lists the options from cheapest up: fixed shelves; shelves plus internal drawer boxes on ball-bearing runners for the lower half, which is the most cost-effective move in most pantries; full-extension pull-out baskets or a wire larder frame; and at the top a fully mechanised pull-out pantry where the whole internal rack comes out with the door. Our pantry cabinet guide prices the tall unit itself.
The corner of an L or U kitchen is the hardest storage to reach. A carousel, a Magic Corner or a LeMans bring it out, and ClickBina's Subang Jaya kitchen guide puts a corner cabinet with a magic corner or carousel at RM800 – RM1,500 as an add-on. In a small kitchen, closing the corner off can be the better use of money; our corner cabinet guide compares the mechanisms.
Wall cabinets are shallow, so the problem is height rather than depth. Shelf risers and stackable racks double the usable layers for cups and bowls. A lift-up door keeps the whole cabinet open while you unload, and the top shelf of a ceiling-height run is best kept for things you use a few times a year. See our lift-up fittings guide for the mechanisms.

If the carcass is failing, organisers only postpone the problem. In a small kitchen the same rules apply at a smaller scale; our small kitchen cabinet design guide shows where they matter most.
