Browse 14 tall pantry and larder cabinet looks by style and home, then compare shelves, drawers and pull-outs, where a tall unit fits, and the per-foot rate.

A pantry cabinet in a Malaysian kitchen is usually not a room but a tall unit: a floor-to-ceiling cabinet that holds dry goods, small appliances, cleaning tools, or an oven and microwave stacked in a tower. What makes it work is the inside, not the door: drawers in the low half, adjustable shelves at eye level, and a pull-out where the cabinet is deep. Use the filters below to narrow the 14 concept designs by style or home type, then read on for the layout rules and what a tall unit costs per foot.
Each design below is an illustrative concept render, grouped by style and by the home it usually suits. Tap any image to enlarge it. Every card links to the ClickBina guide that explains the fittings, the board or the cost behind that look.

In most Klang Valley homes the word “pantry” means a tall unit, not a walk-in room. ClickBina's pantry cabinet cost guide describes it as a floor-to-ceiling cabinet, usually 600 mm deep, and notes that a typical single tall unit is 2 to 3 feet wide. That width is the key number: most condo kitchens have room for one tall unit at the end of the run, while terrace and semi-D kitchens often have a spare wall for a bank of two or three.
The tall unit earns its floor space because it uses the band of wall between the base cabinets and the ceiling that a normal kitchen leaves half empty. It is also where a fridge can be framed, where an oven and microwave can be lifted to a comfortable height, and where brooms and the vacuum can finally get a home of their own. The designs above show each of those jobs: larders, appliance towers, utility cupboards, breakfast cupboards and, in larger houses, a walk-in pantry room.
| Type | What it holds | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shelved larder | Dry goods on adjustable shelves | Shallow units and tight budgets | Deep fixed shelves lose the back third |
| Larder with internal drawers | Heavy and low items in drawers, jars above | Most condo and terrace pantries | Doors must clear the drawer fronts |
| Pull-out larder frame | Whole rack slides out with the front | Narrow gaps beside the hob or fridge | Runner load rating; buy a proper mechanism |
| Appliance tower | Oven and microwave at working height | Kitchens with no room under the hob | Ventilation, power points, exact appliance sizes |
| Utility cupboard | Broom, mop, vacuum, cleaning bottles | Condos beside the service yard | Air for a wet mop |
| Walk-in pantry room | Open shelves, baskets and a small counter | Semi-Ds and bungalows with a spare room | Shelf supports, sun and damp |
The pantry guide is blunt about depth: in a 600 mm deep unit with fixed shelves the back third is effectively lost, so either add a mechanism or choose a shallower 400 mm tall unit with shelves, where every jar stays in sight. The usual layout follows your reach: drawers below knee height, adjustable shelves from knee to shoulder for everyday goods, and light or seasonal items above.
| Home | Usual position | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Condo galley | One tall unit at the end of the run | Keep it off the middle so the counter is not split |
| Condo L-shape | Tall unit beside the fridge, or a fridge surround | Leave the fridge's side and top ventilation gaps |
| Terrace dry kitchen | A bank of two or three tall units on the spare wall | Combine a larder with an appliance tower |
| Terrace wet kitchen | Tall unit near the back door, raised off the floor | Moisture-resistant carcass in humid areas |
| Semi-D or bungalow | Pantry wall or a small walk-in pantry room | Light, shading and shelf supports in the room |
Two clearances decide whether a tall unit works: the door swing, which needs open floor in front, and the gap to the fridge or a wall at the end of the run. In a narrow galley a shallow unit opposite the main counter often holds more than a deep one you cannot see into.
Tall units are not priced like base cabinets. The pantry cabinet cost guide explains that a tall unit is quoted as a multiple of the base-cabinet rate, so a laminate kitchen at RM280 – RM420 per foot run becomes roughly RM448 – RM924 per foot as a floor-to-ceiling pantry (indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026). By board, the same guide puts a melamine tall unit at RM288 – RM660 per ft run and a tall unit on an MR plywood carcass with laminate doors at RM560 – RM1,320 per ft run.
Because most homes buy only two or three feet of tall unit, the internal fittings often matter as much as the carcass rate. Drawers, pull-out frames, lighting, appliance housings and glass doors are separate lines on a proper quote. A walk-in pantry room, open shelving and breakfast cupboards are priced on their own drawings.
