Illustrative concept design: full-wall built-in wardrobe with bronze tinted glass doors and light oak doors in a condo master bedroom

Good wardrobe design starts with three choices: the door type (sliding, swing or bi-fold) that fits the floor space in front of it, the height (to the ceiling or not), and whether you need a built-in wardrobe along one wall or a walk-in wardrobe room. Built-ins are priced per foot run by board; walk-ins are priced as a small room. Use the filters below to narrow the 13 modern wardrobe design concepts by style or home type.

How to choose a wardrobe design

Start with the floor in front of the wardrobe, not the catalogue. Stand where the wardrobe will go and look at what is in the way: the bed, a bedside table, the door into the room. That one check decides the door type, and the door type shapes most of the design.

  • Swing doors if there is clear floor in front. They open the whole wardrobe at once, close tightest against dust and use the simplest hardware.
  • Sliding doors if the bed or a walkway sits in the arc a swing door would need. You only open half the wardrobe at a time, so plan the inside around that.
  • Bi-fold doors when space is tight but you still want to see a whole bay at once.
  • Floor to ceiling if you want the most storage and no dust shelf on top; keep daily clothes at reachable height and use the top for luggage and seasonal items.

Then plan the inside before the outside. Count what you hang long, what you hang short, what you fold, and how many bags and shoes go in. A wardrobe with the right rails and drawers in the right places will feel larger than a bigger one planned around the doors alone. ClickBina's wardrobe internal fittings guide covers rails, drawers and pull-down lifts.

Practical limits to check before you commit

  • Floor clearance. Swing doors need clear floor in front; if the bed is in the way, go sliding or bi-fold.
  • Ceiling and bulkheads. Aircon trunking, beams and false ceilings change the height you can build to; measure after the ceiling work, not before.
  • Damp walls. A wardrobe on an outside wall or a bathroom wall needs an air gap behind it and moisture-resistant board; fix any leak first.
  • Termites. In landed homes, treat the house first, then build; aluminium or a raised base helps on ground floors.
  • Power and lighting. Lit shelves, a dressing niche or a door sensor all need a power point planned before the back panel goes on; see the cabinet LED lighting guide.

What these wardrobe designs cost

Built-in wardrobes are priced by the foot run, doors included, and the board drives the price more than the style. ClickBina's wardrobe door types guide lists RM180 – RM350 per ft run for melamine, RM350 – RM550 for moisture-resistant plywood, RM500 – RM800 for premium laminate on MR plywood and RM700 – RM1,200 for solid timber. As a whole-job check, it puts a standard three-door built-in wardrobe at about RM2,500 – RM6,000. Glass, mirrors, lighting and branded hardware add to those rates.

Walk-in wardrobes are priced as a room. The walk-in wardrobe guide puts a basic L-shaped layout in melamine at RM8,000 – RM15,000 installed and a full U-shaped system with lighting and soft-close hardware at RM18,000 – RM30,000. Larger walk-ins with an island and premium finishes can exceed RM40,000. Aluminium has no separate wardrobe rate; the aluminium wardrobe guide shows the full aluminium cabinetry rate of RM400 – RM700 per ft run. Common Questions

What is the most popular wardrobe design in Malaysia right now?
In condos, floor-to-ceiling built-ins with sliding doors are the most common choice, often with one mirror leaf or a glass section with lighting. In landed homes, full-height swing-door wardrobes and walk-in wardrobes made from a spare box room are popular.
Sliding or swing doors: which suits a small bedroom?
If the bed or a walkway sits where a swing door would open, choose sliding or bi-fold doors. If there is clear floor in front, swing doors open the whole wardrobe at once, close tighter against dust and are easier to adjust later.
Should a built-in wardrobe go all the way to the ceiling?
Usually yes. Going to the ceiling removes the dusty gap on top and adds storage for luggage and seasonal clothes. Keep daily clothes at a height you can reach and use the top cabinets for things you rarely need.
How do I stop a wardrobe from getting mouldy?
Leave an air gap behind the back panel, use moisture-resistant board on outside or bathroom walls, do not pack the wardrobe solid, and put clothes away only when fully dry. Fix any wall leak before the wardrobe is built.
What is the difference between a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in wardrobe?
A built-in wardrobe is a run of cabinets along one wall and is priced per foot run. A walk-in wardrobe is a small room you step into, with storage on more than one side, and is priced as a room with its lighting and ventilation.
Are the designs on this page real ClickBina projects?
No. They are illustrative concept designs that show style options. Your wardrobe is designed and quoted to your own wall, ceiling and storage needs.
