Browse 12 ceiling ideas for the large, tall rooms of a bungalow, from a coffer at the top of a double-volume void to a timber soffit on the verandah, then see what each one involves.
📍 We serve KL, Selangor & Putrajaya.

A bungalow ceiling is usually about height and scale: a double-volume living room, a sloped ceiling under the roof, a formal dining room and a large master bedroom. Good bungalow ceilings give each tall room one clear feature, such as a coffer at the top of the void, exposed beams on a sloped ceiling, a medallion for the chandelier or a skylight, and they plan how fans, lights and skylights will be reached and fixed at height. These 12 concept designs show double-volume, sloped, layered and daylight ceilings for bungalows; use the filters below to narrow them by style.
Each design below is an illustrative concept render of a ceiling in an ordinary Malaysian bungalow, grouped by style. Tap any image to enlarge it. Every card links to the ClickBina guide that covers the ceiling, lighting, fan, skylight or soffit work behind that look.

Start with the height of each room. A bungalow often has a double-volume living room, a sloped ceiling under the roof, a formal dining room and large bedrooms, and each needs a different answer. In a tall room, one strong feature at the top reads better than many small boxes, and the practical questions are how to light it, cool it and reach it. The semi-D and bungalow living room gallery shows how the ceiling works with the rest of a large hall.
Settle the lighting plan, fan points, aircon positions and curtain tracks before the ceiling is framed; in a big house, deciding late is how finished ceilings are opened again.
| Ceiling | What it involves | Suits | Main check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double-volume coffer | A recessed panel with cove light at the top of the void | Tall living rooms | Access for lights and cleaning |
| Sloped with beams | Plaster or timber following the roof, beams left on view | Rooms under the roof | Insulation above the slope |
| Two-tier with medallion | Stepped plaster with cove light and a decorative centre | Dining rooms and bedrooms | Fixing for the chandelier or fan |
| Dome or curve | A recessed dome or curved drop | Foyers | Extra labour for curves |
| Skylight or clerestory | Glass in the roof or high in the wall | Deep or tall rooms | Heat, glare and leaks |
| If your bungalow room... | Start with | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Echoes and feels empty | One feature ceiling at the top of the void | Soft furnishings and a slat wall |
| Has fans that do nothing | Longer downrods so the blades sit lower | A second fan in a long hall |
| Is dark in the middle | A skylight or clerestory band | Coating or blinds against glare |
| Has a chandelier on the board | A reinforced point fixed to the slab | A medallion to frame it |
| Gets hot under the roof | Insulation above the sloped ceiling | Ventilation in the roof space |
The living room ceiling guide puts a flat plaster ceiling at RM6 – RM12 per sq ft and a perimeter cove at RM15 – RM25 per sq ft, and ClickBina's plaster ceiling cost guide notes that elaborate multi-tier designs can reach RM35 – RM50 per sq ft. Curved and dome features start at RM18 – RM30 per sq ft, and the bedroom ceiling guide lists a 120 sq ft master bedroom at RM840 – RM1,320 flat or RM1,800 – RM2,800 with a cove or drop. At height, the fan downrod guide adds RM50 – RM150 per fan for ceilings of 12 ft and above, a chandelier point reinforced to the slab is RM150 – RM480 with a new wiring point at RM120 – RM250, and a skylight coating is RM500 – RM2,000 per skylight or window film RM3 – RM18 per sq ft (indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026).
Ask for scaffolding or access at height to be priced as its own line, together with the ceiling, lighting, fan points and any skylight work.
We build plaster ceilings, coves, coffers, tiers and domes for bungalows, with the wiring done by an electrician and the fixing points for chandeliers and fans planned into the frame. Skylights, glass balustrades and scaffolding are quoted as their own items.
