Illustrative concept design: U-shaped kitchen of dark brushed stainless steel base and wall cabinets with a grey stone worktop and a window

Stainless steel kitchen cabinets are the heavy-duty end of the Malaysian kitchen: the carcass and doors are folded from steel sheet, usually in a brushed or hairline finish, so termites, swelling and a leaking sink trap cannot ruin them. They suit wet kitchens, daily wok cooking, yards and covered outdoor kitchens best, and they look most at home when you soften them with oak or white wall cabinets, a stone worktop or a coloured tile. The two specifications that decide whether a stainless kitchen lasts are the grade of the steel and the thickness of the sheet. Use the filters below to narrow the 13 concept designs by style or home type.

Why choose stainless steel cabinets

The two commonest cabinet complaints in Malaysian kitchens are swelling and termites, and both come from timber-based boards meeting water. A stainless cabinet has no board to swell and nothing for termites to eat, which is why it is the material of choice for commercial kitchens and the hardest-worked home kitchens. It also takes heat and harsh cleaning well, so a wok station or a sink that is in use all day stays looking the same for years.

The trade-offs are real. Stainless costs more than aluminium or plywood and laminate, it has essentially one colour, large flat doors show fingerprints and small dents, and thin single-skin doors can sound tinny when they close. Most homes therefore use stainless where the work happens and something warmer elsewhere.

  • Best fit: wet kitchens, back kitchens, yards, outdoor kitchens and any run around a busy sink or wok hob.
  • Mix it: stainless base cabinets with oak, white or coloured wall cabinets keep the look homely.
  • Think twice: a dry show kitchen that is rarely cooked in will not use what you are paying for.

What to specify before you sign

  • Grade. Grade 304 is the usual choice for kitchen surfaces; the cheaper grade 201 is more prone to tea staining and pitting in humid or salty air. See the guide to stainless grades.
  • Sheet thickness and door build. Thin sheet flexes and dents. Ask for the gauge on the quote and whether doors are single-skin or a quieter, stiffer double-skin panel.
  • What is inside. Some “stainless” kitchens are a steel skin on a particleboard core, which brings back the swelling problem. Ask what the internal frame is.
  • Worktop. A stainless top can be one piece with the sink welded in; a stone top is a separate trade and price. The stainless worktop guide compares them.
  • Base. Legs, a stainless kick or a raised tiled concrete base each behave differently on a wet floor.
  • Hardware. Soft-close hinges and good runners matter more on heavy metal doors and drawers than on board.

What stainless steel cabinets cost

ClickBina's cabinet comparison guide puts a stainless steel cabinet at RM650 – RM1,000 per ft run, carcass, doors and basic hardware installed, worktop excluded (indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026). For comparison, full aluminium cabinets sit at RM400 – RM700 per ft run in the same table, which is why many homes use stainless only for the wet kitchen or the cooking wall.

Where your run lands in that band depends on the grade, the sheet thickness, single- or double-skin doors, the number of drawers and tall units, and the hardware. A stainless worktop with a welded sink, a chimney hood, a built-in grill and any plumbing or electrical changes are priced as their own lines, so compare quotes line by line rather than by the total.

Common Questions

Are stainless steel kitchen cabinets good for Malaysian homes?
Yes, where the kitchen is worked hard. They do not swell, rot or attract termites and they take heat and cleaning well, so they suit wet kitchens, yards and outdoor kitchens. For a lightly used dry kitchen, aluminium or plywood and laminate usually make more sense.
Will stainless steel cabinets rust?
Good-grade stainless resists rust but is not immune. Grade 304 holds up well in kitchens; cheaper grade 201 can show tea staining and small pits in humid or salty air. Clean off salt and bleach splashes and ask which grade is quoted.
How much do stainless steel kitchen cabinets cost?
ClickBina's cabinet comparison guide puts them at RM650 to RM1,000 per ft run installed, worktop excluded (indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026). The grade, sheet thickness, doors and drawers decide where in that range a job lands.
Is stainless steel or aluminium better for a wet kitchen?
Both survive water and termites. Stainless is stronger and handles heat and heavy cooking better; aluminium is lighter, cheaper and comes in more colours. Many homes put stainless around the sink and hob and use aluminium or board elsewhere.
How do I stop fingerprints on stainless cabinets?
Choose a brushed rather than a mirror finish, wipe along the grain with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner, and avoid steel wool or scouring powder, which scratch the surface.
Can stainless cabinets be used outdoors?
Yes, under a roof. Covered patios and BBQ areas are a common use. Ask for a grade suited to outdoor air and keep the run sheltered from direct rain.
Are the designs on this page real ClickBina projects?
No. They are illustrative concept designs that show style options. Your kitchen is measured and quoted on its own layout, steel grade and fittings.
