A display cabinet is ordinary custom carpentry with glass in it: a cabinet run with glass doors, glass shelves and, usually, lighting. The look comes from three choices. The frame: painted or timber frames for a classic dresser, slim black metal for an industrial corner, or no frame at all for a clean modern wall. The glass: clear, fluted or a full-glass case. The light: none, a strip under the top, or vertical strips in the sides that light every shelf. Use the filters below to narrow the concept designs by style or home type, then read what to specify before you ask for a quote.

Framed, frameless or full-glass?

Framed glass doors set a glass panel into a timber or aluminium frame on ordinary hinges. They are the most forgiving build: the frame protects the glass edge and hides a slightly uneven opening, which is why most crockery dressers, hutches and arched cabinets use them. The trade-off is that the frame interrupts the view of what is inside.

Frameless glass doors use bare glass on glass-door hinges, so nothing sits between the eye and the objects. They need an accurate, square opening, because a bored glass door cannot be trimmed on site. A full-glass case adds glass sides and a top; light passes right through it, but every joint is a fitting and it is the hardest build to keep free of dust. The display cabinet cost guide sets out all three in more detail.

Whichever build you choose, the glass itself has to be written down. ClickBina's cost guide explains that nothing obliges a maker to use toughened glass in furniture unless the quotation says so, so ask for toughened glass by name for every door and shelf, with polished edges.

Glass, lighting and dust: what to specify

  • Glass. Toughened glass for every door and shelf, named in words, with polished edges. A tinted or mirrored back panel is glass too. See why toughened glass can still break on its own.
  • Shelf span. Long unsupported glass shelves sag or crack under heavy plates; ask for the span and support of every shelf on the drawing.
  • Lighting. A strip under the top lights only the top shelf. Vertical strips in the side panels light every shelf evenly, but the channels are cut before the carcass is built. The cabinet LED lighting guide covers strips, sensors and drivers.
  • The driver. The driver fails before the LED does, so it must sit somewhere ventilated and reachable, not behind a fixed panel.
  • Dust. Glass doors with a soft seal keep crockery cleaner in a Malaysian home; a full-glass case needs the most care at every joint.
  • Fixing. Tall cabinets and hutches must be fixed to the wall so they cannot tip.

What these display cabinets cost

The display cabinet cost guide prices a custom display cabinet with glass doors at RM500 – RM750 per ft run (indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026), so a typical five-foot unit lands around RM2,500 – RM3,750 before lighting. The same cabinet with solid laminate doors would be RM280 – RM420 per ft run, and a solid timber frame with glass panels is the premium build at RM600 – RM1,000 per ft run.

Lighting, the electrical point that feeds it and any lock are separate lines on the quote. For scale, the cabinet LED lighting guide lists an LED strip inside a wardrobe at RM50 – RM120 per metre installed. Curved or arched glass, tinted backs and full-glass cases are quoted on the job, because no ClickBina guide prices them on their own.

Common Questions

Which glass is right for a display cabinet?
Toughened glass for every door and shelf, written into the quote by name, with polished edges. Nothing obliges a maker to use it in furniture unless you ask, and ordinary glass breaks into sharp shards.
Should a display cabinet have lights?
Lighting is what makes a display cabinet glow rather than look like a cupboard with glass doors. Vertical LED strips in the sides light every shelf evenly; a single strip under the top lights only the top shelf.
Framed or frameless glass doors?
Framed doors are the forgiving, classic choice and protect the glass edge. Frameless doors give the clearest view but need an accurate opening, because bored glass cannot be trimmed on site.
Where should a display cabinet go in a Malaysian home?
The dining area is the usual place, close to where plates and glasses are used. Keep it out of strong afternoon sun and away from the wet kitchen, where steam and grease reach the glass.
How do I keep a display cabinet free of dust?
Ask for glass doors with soft seals and close-fitting gaps. Open shelves and full-glass cases gather the most dust; a framed cabinet with sealed doors is the easiest to keep clean.
Can a display cabinet be built into a full cabinet wall?
Yes. A common condo design is a full-height wall of flush cupboards with one lit glass bay in the middle, so most storage stays hidden and only the display is on show.
Are the designs on this page real ClickBina projects?
No. They are illustrative concept designs that show style options. Your cabinet is measured and quoted on its own size, glass and lighting.
