In a condo the big kitchen decision is open or closed, and the building often makes it for you. Gas cooking and wok frying favour a closed kitchen; a hood that can only recirculate, or no gas at all, makes an open kitchen workable. Start with the points the building fixes: the gas supply, the water and waste pipes, the hood's possible exit, and the yard. Then decide open or closed. Most Malaysian condos were handed over with a closed kitchen and a service yard; opening it up looks better but brings cooking smells and grease into the living room.
Plan the yard at the same time. A washer, dryer and drying space have to fit there, and the yard is usually where the kitchen's only window is.
