Illustrative concept design: grey large-tile condo bathroom with a glass shower panel, wall-hung toilet and oak floating vanity

In Malaysia, "toilet design" and "bathroom design" usually mean the same room: a toilet, a basin and a shower, often in a small space that stays wet. A good bathroom design starts with water: a floor that falls to the drain, waterproofing under the tiles and a way to keep the shower wet and the rest dry. Then choose the tiles, which set most of the look, and the fittings: vanity, glass screen and toilet. The 14 concept designs below are grouped by style and by the home they usually suit.

How to choose a bathroom design

Decide in this order. The first two decide whether the bathroom still looks good after years of daily showers.

  • Wet and dry zones. A glass panel or screen keeps the shower wet and the toilet and basin dry. Sliding and fixed panels suit small rooms; hinged frameless doors need space to swing. The small bathroom layout guide covers wet and dry separation.
  • Waterproofing and falls. The floor must fall to the drain, and the membrane under the tiles must be sound. A new look over a leaking floor fails. See the bathroom waterproofing guide.
  • Tiles. Large tiles mean fewer grout lines and a calmer look; mosaic and patterned tiles add character but more grout to scrub. Choose an anti-slip floor tile for a family or common bathroom.
  • Fittings. A floating vanity and a wall-hung toilet leave the floor clear and easy to mop; a mirror cabinet adds storage in a small room.

If the room is sound and not leaking, a refresh without hacking can change the look for less: see the bathroom makeover without hacking guide.

Practical limits to check before you commit

  • The toilet and floor trap are fixed in the slab. Moving a toilet means new drainage through the floor, which costs more and in a condo needs management consent. Design around the existing points where you can.
  • Never retile over a failed membrane. If the bathroom leaks to the floor below, waterproofing comes first; new tiles on top hide the problem rather than fix it.
  • Epoxy and overlay tiles are finishes, not waterproofing. They suit a sound, dry floor only.
  • Glass must suit the room. Hinged doors need swing space; sliding and fixed panels suit tight rooms. The shower screen types guide compares them.
  • Grout and mould. Small tiles and mosaic mean more grout. Plan ventilation, and see the tile and grout deep-cleaning guide for upkeep.

What these bathroom designs cost

For a whole bathroom, ClickBina's bathroom renovation cost guide gives three tiers: basic (re-tile, new toilet, basin, tap and shower set) RM6,000 – RM10,000; mid-range (full re-tile, waterproofing, vanity, glass screen and water heater) RM12,000 – RM18,000; and premium (large-format tiles, rain shower, custom vanity and a feature wall) RM20,000 – RM35,000+.

Tiles are priced per sq ft in the bathroom retiling cost guide: homogeneous RM15 – RM30, porcelain RM18 – RM35 and mosaic RM20 – RM45. A framed sliding aluminium shower screen is RM500 – RM900 and a frameless hinged one RM1,200 – RM3,000. A custom vanity cabinet is RM800 – RM3,500 per unit, excluding the basin and tap. These are indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026; the condition of the existing room changes the final price more than the style does.

Common Questions

Is toilet design the same as bathroom design in Malaysia?
Usually yes. Most Malaysian homes call the room with the toilet, basin and shower a toilet or a bathroom interchangeably. A separate guest toilet with only a toilet and a basin is the one exception, and it is in this gallery too.
How much does a bathroom renovation cost?
ClickBina's bathroom renovation cost guide puts a basic job at RM6,000 – RM10,000, a mid-range job at RM12,000 – RM18,000 and a premium job at RM20,000 – RM35,000+.
What tiles suit a small bathroom?
Large tiles in light colours, with as few grout lines as possible, make a small bathroom look bigger and are easier to clean. Use an anti-slip tile on the floor.
Can I change my bathroom design without hacking?
Yes, for the finishes, if the bathroom is not leaking. Tiling over sound old tiles, an epoxy floor, a new vanity and new fittings can change the look. A leaking bathroom needs waterproofing first.
Can I move the toilet to a new position?
It is possible but costly, because the waste pipe runs through the floor slab. In a condo it also needs management consent. Most designs keep the toilet where it is and change everything around it.
Sliding or hinged shower screen?
Sliding or fixed panels suit small bathrooms because nothing swings into the room. Hinged frameless doors look cleaner but need space to open.
Are the designs on this page real ClickBina projects?
No. They are illustrative concept designs that show style options. Your bathroom is planned and quoted to your own space, plumbing and the condition of the existing room.
