Illustrative concept design: long walnut floating TV console under a wall-mounted TV in a Malaysian condo living room

A good TV cabinet design starts with two choices: a low or floating console under a wall-mounted TV, or a full-height wall unit that frames the TV with storage. Low consoles suit most condos and are priced per foot run; full-height units suit terrace and semi-D living halls and are priced like a feature wall. Use the filters below to narrow the 14 concept designs by style or home type.

How to choose a TV cabinet design

Start with the wall, not the style. Measure the wall you have, note where the power point and Astro or TV cable come in, and decide whether the TV will hang on the wall or stand on the cabinet. Those three facts decide most of the design.

  • Low or floating console if the wall is short, the room is small, or you want the floor visible. It is the simplest build and the easiest to change later.
  • Full-height wall unit if you need storage in the living room and the wall is long and straight. It turns the TV wall into the room's main feature, and it is priced like one.
  • Open frame or furniture-style console if you rent, may move, or want the look of loose furniture.
  • Match the finish to the rest of the room. Pick the floor and sofa colours first, then choose a cabinet finish that sits with them rather than fights them.

Before you fix the style, decide what must be hidden: router, media box, game console, speakers. Cabinets that hold electronics need ventilation and a cable route, which changes the door and back-panel design.

Practical limits to check before you commit

  • Wall strength. Wall-hung consoles and heavy stone tops need a solid wall or proper fixings. Hollow partitions need a different fixing plan.
  • Cables and sockets. Decide the socket height and cable route first; concealed TV and Astro cabling is far easier before the cabinet goes in.
  • Ventilation. A closed cabinet holding a router or media box gets warm; leave vents or an open slot.
  • Viewing height. Keep the screen centre close to seated eye level. A tall console with a TV standing on top can push the screen too high.
  • Humidity and sun. Veneer, rattan and paint all react to strong afternoon sun and damp walls; check the wall for damp first.

What these TV cabinet designs cost

Low and floating consoles are priced by the foot run. ClickBina's TV cabinet cost guide puts a floating or low console at RM280 – RM600 per ft run in the Klang Valley, with laminate at the lower end and premium finishes at the top. Drawer runners, soft-close hinges and lighting add to that.

Full-height wall units, fluted backdrops and display towers are not priced per console foot. They are quoted as a feature-wall job because the whole wall is built; see the TV feature wall cost guide or try the TV feature wall cost calculator for a first estimate.

Common Questions

What is the most popular TV cabinet design in Malaysia right now?
Floating consoles under a wall-mounted TV are the most common choice in condos, often paired with a fluted or wood-look panel behind the TV. In landed homes, full-height wall units with open niches and hidden storage are popular.
Is a floating TV cabinet strong enough?
Yes, when it is fixed to a solid wall with the right brackets and the carcass is built for the load. Heavy stone tops or storing heavy items need a stronger frame, and hollow partition walls need a different fixing plan.
How do I hide the TV cables?
Plan the socket and cable route before the cabinet is built. Cables can run inside the wall, in a channel behind a wall panel, or down through the back of the console. Leave space and ventilation for the router or media box.
What is the difference between a TV cabinet and a TV feature wall?
A TV cabinet is the storage unit under or around the TV. A feature wall finishes the whole wall behind the TV with panels, lighting or cladding. Full-height units combine both, which is why they are priced like a feature wall.
Which finish lasts best in a Malaysian living room?
Laminate on a moisture-resistant board is the practical all-rounder. Veneer and painted finishes look richer but need more care, and rattan or light timber should be kept out of strong afternoon sun.
Are the designs on this page real ClickBina projects?
No. They are illustrative concept designs that show style options. Your cabinet is designed and quoted to your own wall, TV and storage needs.
