Illustrative concept design: black horizontal-bar window grilles on two ground-floor windows of a white terrace house

A good window grill design balances three things: security, a safe way out in an emergency, and how it looks from the street. Simple bar grilles in mild steel or aluminium suit most terrace and condo windows and are priced per square foot; laser-cut panels and scroll work are bespoke; invisible cable grilles suit high-floor condos where the risk is a fall, not a break-in. Use the filters below to narrow the 12 concept designs by style or home type.

How to choose a window grill design

Start with the job the grille has to do, then pick the look. On a ground-floor window or a terrace house back door the job is keeping people out. On a high-floor condo window the job is stopping a fall. Every bedroom also needs a way out in a fire, and that one rule shapes more modern grill designs than any style choice.

  • Simple bar grilles (horizontal, vertical or square grid) if you want security at the lowest cost. They are quick to make, easy to repaint and priced per square foot.
  • Laser-cut or scroll grilles if the window faces the street and you want a feature. They are bespoke, so the pattern, the steel thickness and the finish all move the price.
  • Invisible cable grilles for high-floor condos with children or pets, where you want to keep the view and the breeze.
  • Openable panels on at least one window in every bedroom, so a grille never traps anyone inside.

Match the colour to the window frame or the gate. A grille the same colour as the frame almost disappears; a contrasting black grille on a white wall becomes part of the facade. If you are also replacing the main gate, keep the bar style consistent so the house reads as one design.

Safety and practical limits to check first

  • A way out in a fire. Make sure at least one window in each bedroom has an openable panel with a lock, and keep the key inside near the window. A fixed grille on every window is the arrangement that traps people.
  • Children and high floors. On a high-floor condo window the risk is a fall. An invisible grille keeps the view while stopping a child from climbing out, but it only protects above its bottom track, so a chair by a low sill is still the thing to watch.
  • Building rules. Condo and apartment managements often control grille design and colour on the facade. Check the house rules before you order.
  • Rust. Mild steel rusts at the welds once the coating chips, especially in humid or coastal air. Aluminium does not rust; stainless steel costs more but holds up longest.
  • Fixing. A grille is only as strong as what holds it. Ask whether it is fixed into concrete, brick or the window frame, and how the joints are welded.

What these window grille designs cost

Standard window grilles are priced by the square foot of the opening. In the window comparison row of ClickBina's grille door price guide, a standard window grille is RM80 – RM130 per sq ft in powder-coated mild steel, RM130 – RM200 per sq ft in aluminium and RM180 – RM280 per sq ft in stainless steel (SS304), as indicative Klang Valley ranges for 2026, supplied and installed.

Openable grilles cost more because of the hinges and the lock: the same guide notes that an openable grille with a lock adds RM200 – RM600 per unit for the mechanism. A sliding grille in front of a glass door is RM100 – RM160 per sq ft in mild steel. Laser-cut panels, scroll work and projecting box grilles are bespoke, so they are quoted from a drawing rather than a per-foot rate. Common Questions

What is the most popular window grill design in Malaysia?
Simple horizontal or vertical bar grilles in black or white are the most common on terrace houses, because they are strong, quick to make and priced per square foot. Laser-cut and classic scroll designs are popular on street-facing windows of semi-Ds, and invisible cable grilles are common in high-floor condos.
Are horizontal grille bars safe with children at home?
Horizontal bars can be climbed like a ladder, so on low windows near a bed or sofa vertical bars or an invisible grille are the safer choice. Whatever the style, keep furniture away from windows and fit at least one openable panel per bedroom.
Should every window grille be openable?
Not every window, but every bedroom should have at least one window with an openable panel and a lock, so it can be used as a way out in a fire. Keep the key inside, near the window, where an adult can reach it quickly.
Mild steel, aluminium or stainless steel: which is better for a window grille?
Mild steel is the cheapest and strongest for the money, but it needs repainting once the coating chips. Aluminium costs more but does not rust and is light. Stainless steel costs the most and lasts longest, especially near the coast.
Do I need approval to change grilles in a condo?
Usually yes. Many condo and apartment managements set an approved grille design and colour for the facade. Check the house rules and apply to the management before ordering.
Are the designs on this page real ClickBina projects?
No. They are illustrative concept designs that show style options. Your grille is measured and quoted to your own windows, floor level and building rules.
