A 3 ft × 4 ft bedroom window is 12 sq ft; a full-height door grille is about 21 sq ft.
Rooms without a second exit should have an openable panel for fire escape.

Metal grilles are priced per square foot (railings per linear foot), and the rate depends on where the grille goes and what it is made of. A standard window grille runs RM80–RM130 per sq ft in powder-coated mild steel, RM130–RM200 in aluminium and RM180–RM280 in stainless steel; sliding grilles, main-door security gates and balcony or staircase railings each have their own row in the calculator. Openable panels with a lock add RM200–RM600 per unit for the mechanism.
Fencing is priced per linear metre: galvanised BRC wire mesh at RM80–RM150, mild steel grille at RM150–RM350, aluminium pressed-panel at RM200–RM400, timber slats at RM200–RM450, composite (WPC) at RM300–RM600, brick or RC pillar with grille infill at RM350–RM700 and glass panels at RM500–RM1,200. If an old fence has to come down first, demolition and debris removal adds RM15–RM40 per metre.
