A plaster ceiling is priced per square foot of ceiling area, and the design sets the rate: flat gypsum board at RM6–RM10 per sq ft, flat cement or calcium silicate board (for bathrooms, wet kitchens and ceilings under a bathroom) at RM8–RM12, a simple drop or cove at RM15–RM22, a coffered or two-tier design at RM22–RM35 and a multi-tier feature coffer at RM35–RM50. The calculator multiplies the rate by your area.
Extras are added only if you enter them: cornice or coving strip at RM12–RM25 per linear ft, downlight and fan openings at RM15–RM30 per cut, cove LED strip at RM8–RM20 per linear ft (supply and install), and hacking and disposal of an old ceiling at RM2–RM5 per sq ft. Painting, LED drivers and the electrician’s wiring are not included — they are usually separate lines.
The rates come from the 2026 price tables in our plaster ceiling price guide. The biggest swing between quotes is usually how the L-box and cove are priced (inside the ceiling rate or as a separate line), so ask for it in writing to avoid paying twice.
