A written document recording any change to the original renovation contract — an addition, omission, material substitution or timing change — with the cost impact and revised contract sum so both parties have a clear record.
Why must a variation be agreed in writing before work starts?
Verbal agreements are hard to prove and cause disputes. Under a well-drafted renovation contract, the contractor is only paid for variation work if both parties signed a VO before the work was done. Doing work first then invoicing is a common source of renovation disputes in Malaysia.
