Estimate the cost of hacking a wall or breaking out old floor tiles — choose the job, enter the area, and add making good, re-tiling or levelling. Indicative 2026 Klang Valley ranges, with a warning where a wall may be structural.

Structural walls are never priced per sq ft — they need an engineer and a beam.
Wall: length × height of the part removed. Floor: length × width of the room.
Wall hacking is priced per square foot of wall face removed, with debris disposal included: a non-structural brick partition at RM10–RM25 per sq ft and a drywall partition at RM5–RM12. Each opening then needs making good — patching, plastering, skim and paint where the old wall met the floor, ceiling and side walls — at RM800–RM2,500 per opening. The calculator adds both.
Floor tile hacking is a separate job: breaking out the old tiles and disposing of the debris costs RM1.50–RM3 per sq ft. Tick re-tiling to add supply-and-lay of new tiles at RM12–RM30 per sq ft, and levelling to add RM2–RM6 per sq ft for levelling compound — the calculator applies levelling to the whole area, so treat it as the upper bound; in practice it is only needed where the slab is uneven.
A load-bearing or structural wall is never priced per sq ft. An opening in one needs PE-stamped drawings and a beam, which moves the job into the RM15,000–RM40,000 bracket, and it must not be hacked until the building plans or a Professional Engineer confirm it. | Factor | How it changes your quote |
|---|---|
| Wall type | Drywall is quicker and cheaper to remove than brick; a structural wall is a different job altogether. |
| Making good | Every opening leaves raw edges on the floor, ceiling and side walls that need patching, plaster and paint. |
| Debris disposal | Hacking produces a lot of rubble; the rates here include disposal, but check that any quote does too. |
| Floor condition | After tiles come up the slab is rarely flat; levelling is a contingency that should be quoted with a unit rate. |
| Approvals | Condos need management approval; structural changes need a Professional Engineer and council approval. |
| Hidden services | Pipes and wiring inside a wall must be rerouted before it comes down — ask for that as its own line. |
