Kitchen looks tired but the cabinets are still solid? New doors and hardware on the boxes you already have can change the whole room without a rebuild. Here is when that works, what it costs in the Klang Valley, and what a proper quote should list.

Kitchen cabinet door replacement means keeping the cabinet boxes you already have and fitting new fronts, new hardware or both. It is the cheapest way to change how a kitchen looks and works, but only when the carcasses are dry, square and still holding their screws. On a typical rental-unit refit, a respray or reface of the cabinet doors only is priced at RM800 – RM2,500, against RM280 – RM420 per foot run to rebuild in laminate (market estimate 2026, indicative Klang Valley). Doors are quoted after measuring, so WhatsApp ClickBina photos of your kitchen for a free quote.
Most kitchens are replaced long before they are worn out. The boxes behind the doors (the carcass, back panels and shelves) are usually the longest-lasting part of the kitchen. What dates it is the fronts: a faded colour, a gloss that has gone cloudy, handles you no longer like, and hinges that bang or droop. If that describes your kitchen, you are paying for the part you still like whenever you pay for a full rebuild.
New doors only make sense when the boxes are sound, so the question is always what is wrong with the kitchen rather than how old it is. A dated kitchen with dry, square boxes suits new fronts. A kitchen whose base panel is soft under the sink does not. Neither does one whose carcass edges have swollen or whose hinges have torn out of the board in several places. New doors on failing boxes simply hang crooked on a new face. The same rule appears on the edge banding guide: once the core has swollen, the panel is finished.
There is also a layout test. If the kitchen works (the sink, hob and fridge are where you want them, and nothing is missing), new doors keep that layout. If you want a different layout, an island, a tall unit or moved plumbing, the carcasses have to change and this becomes a new kitchen. At that point the custom kitchen process guide is the better starting point.
Do this before asking anyone for a price. It tells you whether you are buying a refresh or a rebuild.
If everything passes, you are a door-replacement customer. If the sink base or the wet-side edges fail, read the section on water damage near the end of this page first.
“Refacing” is used loosely in Malaysia. It helps to separate the options, because each one fixes a different problem and they cost very different amounts.
| Option | What changes | What it fixes | What it does not fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adjust or re-hardware | Hinges, drawer runners, lift-up stays | Banging, sagging and dragging doors and drawers | A colour or finish you are tired of |
| New handles | Handles or knobs only | A dated look, at the lowest cost | Chipped or faded faces |
| Respray | The existing doors are prepared and re-painted | Colour, on doors that were sprayed (PU / 2K) in the first place | Melamine faces; doors with chipped cores |
| Reface / new doors | New fronts made to the existing openings, usually with new hinges | Colour, finish, style and hardware together | Soft, swollen or out-of-square carcasses |
| Wet run rebuilt, dry side refaced | The boxes on the wet side are rebuilt and the dry side gets new doors | A kitchen with one damaged run and one sound run | Nothing, if the dry side really is sound |
Wrapping old kitchen cabinet doors with wallpaper or a vinyl sticker only changes the surface colour; it does not fix sagging hinges, chipped cores, swollen edges or a soft sink base. If doors are swollen, water is the real problem and has to be stopped before any new face goes on. For a lasting refresh, sprayed PU or 2K doors can be resprayed, and a respray or reface runs RM800 – RM2,500 on a typical rental-unit refit.

💬 Get Your Free QuoteOnly the last three change how the kitchen looks. A respray is a finishing job and suits doors that were sprayed in the first place; the melamine vs laminate comparison notes that a PU or 2K sprayed door can be resprayed, while a chipped melamine face goes straight to the core and cannot be repaired. For most Malaysian kitchens (melamine or laminate on particleboard, MDF or plywood), “refacing” in practice means new doors made to the existing openings. That is the job ClickBina quotes: our cabinet team makes replacement fronts to measure and fits them.
Door-only work is quoted by scope after measuring rather than from a rate card, because door count, sizes and finish vary so much. These are the published reference points to anchor a quote (market estimate 2026, indicative Klang Valley):
| Item | Price (2026, Klang Valley) | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen cabinet respray / reface | RM800 – RM2,500 | Cabinet doors only, not full replacement, on a typical rental-unit refit |
| Set of kitchen / wardrobe hinges replaced | RM100 – RM300 | Hinge replacement across a set of doors |
| Standard hinge (no soft-close) | RM3 – RM8 per hinge | Hardware only, no damper |
| Soft-close hinge, generic / DTC | RM8 – RM20 per hinge | Hardware only |
| Soft-close hinge, Blum / Hettich / Hafele | RM18 – RM40 per hinge | Hardware only, European brands |
| Ball-bearing drawer runner | RM25 – RM60 per pair | Hardware only, side-mounted |
| Lift-up (Aventos-type) mechanism | RM250 – RM600 per door | Wall-unit flap doors |
Two ways to use this. First, hardware is priced per piece, so your total depends on how many you have. Count your doors, multiply by two hinges each (three or four on tall or glass doors), and multiply by the tier you want. The hinge counts by door type are set out in the soft close hinge guide. Second, the RM800 – RM2,500 respray/reface figure comes from a rental-unit refit, which usually means a compact condo kitchen. A long L-shaped kitchen with a tall unit and many drawer fronts sits higher, and a small galley lower. We do not publish a per-door price: sizes, finishes and edge details vary too much, so single doors are priced on inspection.
Handles are not in the table because we have no reliable per-piece market figure to publish. The cabinet handles guide covers how to measure hole centres so replacement handles drop straight in.
A full kitchen is priced per foot run of cabinetry, doors and boxes together. Those rates are the benchmark a door-replacement quote should be compared against (market estimate 2026, indicative Klang Valley):
| Full rebuild specification | Price per foot run | When a rebuild beats new doors |
|---|---|---|
| Melamine board (particleboard / MDF carcass) | RM180 – RM300 per ft run | Rarely. It is the same board most dated kitchens already have |
| Laminate / HPL door (MDF or plywood carcass) | RM280 – RM420 per ft run | When the boxes are failing, or the layout is changing |
| Moisture-resistant (MR) plywood carcass, laminate door | RM350 – RM600 per ft run | The wet run, when the old boxes took on water |
| Full aluminium (3G / 4G frame, powder-coated) | RM400 – RM700 per ft run | A wet kitchen that has already swollen once |
New doors save money because you keep the boxes, back panels, shelves, plinth and worktop. The worktop is the one people forget: a new kitchen normally means a new countertop, and new doors under the existing top do not. If the carcass on the wet side is being rebuilt anyway, upgrading it to moisture-resistant plywood adds RM30 – RM60 per ft run. That is the cheapest insurance in the whole job, and the reason a split job (rebuild the wet run, reface the dry side) is often the right answer.
This is where door-replacement jobs most often disappoint. An exact match for a laminate or melamine colour from a kitchen built years ago is often no longer available, and even the same code from a new batch can look different beside faded doors. So think in runs, not single doors.
A new door has to be drilled for its hinges, and those holes have to line up with the mounting plates already screwed into the carcass. Three details decide whether that works: where the hinge cup sits and how far it is from the door edge; the overlay (whether the door covers the carcass side fully, by half, or sits inside the opening); and the mounting-plate height. Matching all three lets new doors hang on the existing plates. Getting any of them wrong leaves doors with uneven gaps that no amount of adjustment will close.
We normally recommend new hinges with new doors anyway. Old hinges are usually as old as the kitchen, their dampers are worn, and new doors on tired hinges sag within months. Moving to soft-close costs little per hinge and makes the refreshed kitchen feel new. On tall or glass doors, check the hinge count as well, because a heavier new front on too few hinges is the classic early failure. If some hinge plates have pulled out of the board, repair those seats (fill and re-drill, or fit a repair plate) before the new doors go on.
Replacement doors can be made in the same range of finishes as new ones. What matters most is where each door sits:
Whatever the face, edge-sealed melamine-faced board does well in dry zones and poorly under a sink, because water gets in at unsealed edges and drilled holes. On the doors beside the sink and the hob, ask how the edges are banded, and see the cabinet material guide for the board itself.
Two quotes for “new kitchen doors” can describe very different jobs. A quote you can compare states:
If a quote gives a single figure without these lines, ask for them. The same checks apply to new cabinets, and the cabinet quote hidden charges guide lists them in full.
Everything above assumes a dry kitchen. If the bottom edges of your base doors have thickened, the laminate is lifting beside the sink, or the panel under the sink is soft, the problem is water, and a new door will swell the same way unless the water path is closed first. That diagnosis (find the leak, decide door, panel or run, and rebuild the wet side in a moisture-resistant specification) has its own guide: kitchen cabinet water damage and swelling repair. Many kitchens need both: the wet run repaired properly, and new doors on the dry side so the two match.
